An inn, or Ã‚“stand,Ã‚” once stood here serving travelers on the Trace in the early 1800s. It was operated by Widow Cranfield and her second husband, a Native American who spoke little English. The story goes that when travelers approached with questions about accommodations, he would only point to his wife and say, Ã‚“She boss.Ã‚”
