Travel the Great River Road through Tennessee to find historical and recreational beauty. The Great River Road and National Scenic Byway travels through the entire western coast of Tennessee along the great Mississippi River. The road passes through portions of ten river-bordering states. The 185.5-mile Tennessee Corridor is an interconnected tapestry of unique sites, each with its own indigenous, intrinsic value and sense of place. The byway takes you through some of the most scenic stretches of the Lower Mississippi Valley. You'll see jagged Chickasaw bluffs, the forested State Park at Fort Pillow, and Reelfoot Lake State Park, a popular site for bird watchers. The Great River Road in Tennessee passes along several lakes and four state parks, small scenic towns and the bustling city of Memphis, in addition to the mysterious and mighty Mississippi River. Pick up the Great River Road in the northwest corner of the state as you travel alongside the mysterious Reelfoot Lake. Follow Highway 78 south from Reelfoot to pick up Highway 51 at Dyersburg. Be sure to stop in Memphis to see all the riverfront attractions.
