Camp Cheatham Site

The site served briefly as a Confederate induction camp but was abandoned after the fall of Fort Donelson.

This Confederate induction camp was erected in April and May 1861and named in honor of Benjamin F. Cheatham, a Confederate general. The camp did not last a year as Confederates abandoned it after the fall of Fort Donelson in February 1862. Federal troops later dismantled the post and used its materials for their own garrison in Springfield.
