Dive into two worlds of wonder and excitement at the highest rated aquarium in America. Begin with the freshwater exhibits housed in the River Journey building. Watch river otters playing in a cove forest. An alligator and giant snapping turtle will thrill in a delta swamp. Gaze in awe at fantastic seahorses and seadragons. The adventure continues in the Ocean Journey building. Explore the chilly world of "Penguins' Rock" the home of amazing gentoo and macaroni penguins. Big toothy sharks and thousands of colorful reef fish swirl all around an impressive reef. Delight as a multitude of beautiful butterflies flutter throughout a tropical garden. Reach out and touch a shark or ray. Get up close to wonders of nature above and below the water. Experience two aquariums (www.tnaqua.org) in one great city - Chattanooga.
NEW in May 2011, the Tennessee Aquarium is bringing together kids, nature and fun in an all new exhibit in partnership with National Wildlife Federation: Ranger Rick’s Backyard Safari. Be thrilled to meet a Eurasian eagle owl, get hands-on with a ground hog and dig deep to discover critters beneath the dirt. Slither with a legless lizard and be amazed as you’re surrounded by notorious piranhas. Laugh alongside Happy Jack, the talking Amazon parrot, and learn why kids all over the world treasure their furry, feathered and finny friends. Come with a sense of adventure. Leave inspired to care for the wildlife in your own backyard!
Practically next door to the Aquarium, you’ll find the IMAX 3D Theater (www.tnaqua.org/IMAX). With crystal clear, larger than life 3D images that leap off a six-story screen, you'll feel as if you're part of the action at Chattanooga's only certified giant screen theater. Add an IMAX ticket to your Aquarium admission for only $6 for your best value.
Climb aboard the NEW River Gorge Explorer (www.tnaqua.org/RiverGorgeExplorer ) and experience "Tennessee's Grand Canyon". Located across the street from the Aquarium, this 70 passenger high-speed catamaran is the first of its kind in the Southeast. An Aquarium naturalist will lead you into this protected habitat, pointing out wildlife and historic points of interest along the way.
