Between 1813 and 1814, thousands of citizen-soldiers answered Governor Blount's call for volunteers, forever giving Tennessee the nickname, "The Volunteer State." Through the preservation efforts of the Camp Blount Historic Site Association, with state and local governments, the remaining acreage of this site are now protected, offering both educational and recreational opportunities to visitors.
