Member of the National Trust Historic Hotels of America. Built in 1884 as a railroad hotel, it is named after Confederate General John Hunt Morgan, whose raids terrorized the Union Army during the Civil War. Legend has it that Morgan, the “Thunderbolt of the Confederacy,” tried to escape and was shot and killed near the inn. Today, this Conference Center is the crown jewel of the historic district, featuring renovated guest rooms and serving as an area information point.
