Whether it be in the highlands of Scotland, the green plains of Ireland, or the rolling mountains of Appalachia, music and drink have always brought people together. Not much for big name celebrity bands, these cultures did, however, produce their fair share of musicians and singers. Each had received the songs of their heritage and could play them for hours with great skill entertaining and inspiring the locals and travelers. Their place of congregation was a public house, or pub, where any and all could come have a drink and listen in on the session. Boyd's Jig & Reel in the Old City of Knoxville is such a place for all those who seek cold drink, warm conversation and lively music.
East Tennessee has rich roots in Irish and Scottish music, and they merged here with other influences and evolved into bluegrass and old-time Appalachian genres. At Boyd's Jig and Reel, we celebrate our musical past, our present, and our future. Come on down, bring your fiddle or instrument of your choice, and join in. If you forget your instrument, there are plenty tuned up and ready to play from pianos to a double bass to a harp, and of course plenty of mandolins and fiddles. Don't play? Not to worry. We have beer and food for the spectators!
This pub belongs to all players and listeners of this traditional art. So, come and enjoy the heritage of our cultures as we share and preserve it through drink and music.
