Hattiloo Theatre is a black repertory theatre company that puts on seven major productions and six special performances each season. The performances emphasize the diversity of black artistic expression with music, magic and dance. The theatre was founded by Ekundayo Bandele, who combined the nicknames of his two daughters to come up with the name "Hattiloo." The theatre brings the magic of creative expression to parts of the community that might not have such access to top-quality performing arts by making productions geographically accessible to Memphis's inner city.

The theatre is equipped with 66 seats, an entertainment cafe called Zoras (after the Harlem Renaissance writer Zora Neal Hurston), and the Queen Diatta rehearsal room, used for acting and directing classes, and as a meeting space. Every year, the Hattiloo plays a major role in the Memphis Black Arts Festival, a celebration of Memphis' African American performing artists, in Overton Park.
