Years have passed, but some things haven’t changed. The Old Mill’s system of shafts, belts, and pulleys still gets the job done and folks still love to gather around its giant water wheel that harnesses the power of the river. The Old Mill, which was built in 1830, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and continues to grind grain daily on a giant, water-powered wheel.

When you come to The Old Mill, you can tour the working mill and shop at its adjacent Old Mill General Store as well as enjoy a delicious meal at either of two renowned restaurants –  The Old Mill Restaurant and The Old Mill Pottery House Cafe & Grille. The Old Mill's other unique shops provide delight for the whole family. At the Pigeon River Pottery you’ll discover one-of-a-kind, handmade pottery items with the quality of years gone by. To satisfy your sweet tooth, the Creamery and Candy Kitchen offer handmade ice cream, fresh-made taffy, candy and fudge. The Farmhouse Kitchen sells kitchen items along with a variety of gourmet and Old Mill signature food items. Treat yourself or a loved one to a unique gift from our newest store Sassafras.

Beyond shopping and dining, you can observe and interact with artisans and skilled potters at the wheel, see candy and ice cream being made, and wander the riverbank or explore the floral gardens and water features. Seasonal events, such as Heritage Day and our annual cornhole tournament, offer a reason to return again and again.

We invite you to experience the spirit and heritage of the mountains and discover authentic Southern Hospitality in a tranquil riverside setting. Come enjoy great food, shopping, and special events in a place that’s steeped in history and dedicated to preserving the traditions and crafts of East Tennessee’s pioneers.
