Historic Newbury House is Historic Rugby’s premier lodging facility. Newbury House has been welcoming guests almost continuously since 1880 when the British-American village was founded. It’s now updated with modern amenities, but still features authentic Victorian era furnishings to help you step back in time. The parlor’s sideboard is original to the house. Five rooms are upstairs and the suite is on the ground floor. Rent the entire building at specially discounted rates.

Located in the heart of the village, Newbury House is just a short walk to Rugby’s restaurant, the Harrow Road Café.

Within walking distance are all the remaining original Rugby colony buildings from the 1880s, the Visitor Centre with its history film and three tour offerings, local craft and art shops, village and river hiking trails and the historic river swimming spot—still in use and now part of the federal Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.

The staff of non-profit Historic Rugby serve as your hosts, as they have since 1985. No innkeeper is in residence, but advice and assistance are nearby. Newbury House is a non-smoking facility. Smoking is limited to the front porch. No pets permitted. To preserve the quiet, children under age 10 are not permitted in Newbury.
