Chinese New Year 2026 date is Feb. 17, 2026 - Feb. 5, 2027. The 2026 Lunar New Year is the Year of the Horse, according to the Chinese zodiac which features 12 animal signs in this order: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. 

Chinese New Year traditions include decorating red couplets at doors or entrancess to avoid evil spirits, red envelopes are given to children and elders to wish them good health and fortune. Lion dances, dragon dances and street folk dances are often performed to bring good luck to the community. Firecrackers traditionally scare away the legendary beast and mark the new beginning of the new year.

Chinese New Year Banquet - Sichuan Hot Pot & Asian Cuisine Restaurant

Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville will host an exquisite Chinese New Year Banquet prepared by the Sichuan Hot Pot & Asian Cuisine Restaurant in Nashville on Feb. 1, 2026. A ten-course meal will showcase the restaurant’s specialties in celebration of the Chinese New Year complete with a silent auction. Chinese New Year dishes include dumplings (Jiaozi) for wealth, whole fish for abundance, longevity noodles for long life, spring rolls for wealth and Tangyuan (glutinous rice balls) for togetherness as well as lucky fruits such as kumquats and tangerines. CAAN’s lion dance team will visit and give a special performance to wish patrons a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year of the Horse.

Located at Musician’s Corner at Centennial Park, join the Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville (CAAN) for their special Chinese New Year Celebration. Celebrate and learn Chinese culture during the free festival 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 21, 2026. This year's celebration is around the Year of the Horse, which symbolizes vitality, perseverance, warm heartedness and success. CAAN encourages attendees to wear red to add to the fun. New for 2026, Chinese language learners can explore the intricacies of the Chinese language with the "Chinese Tongue Twister Friendly Competition." Sign up for free to compete.

Celebrate Nashville Chinese New Year at the Nashville Zoo. Visit the largest lantern festival in the U.S. featuring more than 1,000 custom-made silk lanterns. Zoolumination at Nashville Zoo runs now through Feb. 8, 2026 and is the perfect, family-friendly event to celebrate Lunar New Year. Enter a realm of fantastical beasts and stunning scenes set throughout the zoo. New designs delight all ages with some lanterns 100 feet long and 50 feet high. Join Plaza Mariachi in partnership with the Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville at their vibrant Chinese New Year Celebration 3-5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026. A free event open to all ages, it will take place at Plaza Mariachi Music City and starts with arts and crafts for families. Programming includes Chinese naming, an exciting performance of a dragon dance, lion dance, music, Chinese yo yo workshop, TaiChi workshop and more.
