Chilled and grilled asparagus plated at Etc. Restaurant.
Celebrity chef Deb Paquette had a banner year in 2016 by opening her latest concept Etc. in the heart of the Green Hills neighborhood. And she's raising the bar with her winter menu thanks to specialties like grilled aji octopus, sweet tea-braised pork belly, duck pastrami and Peruvian Causa. Her pastry chef extraordinaire Megan Williams recently added a Pear Crumble Tart to the dessert program, as well. Over at Etc.'s sister restaurant Etch, Williams' has a few new dessert standouts like a Pecan & Brown Butter Cake and a Lime Pavlova.

The Catfish Sandwich is also on the menu at The Farm House.
The Farm House's chef-owner Trey Cioccia looks at the change of the seasons as an excuse to completely change up his already rotating menu. On deck now is a decadent baby carrot salad with parsnip, beet, pecan, asiago and arugula pistou on the lineup of small plates, as well as a fried oyster dish with apple stuffing, caper and blue cheese remoulade, pickled butternut mussels, Kolbasz gravy and olive bread. On the entrée menu, the pork steak with turnips, mustard greens, onion and white cheddar is a showstopper, as is the pumpkin agnolotti, scarlet turnip, radish, radicchio and sunflower seeds.

Pork and Porcini Meatballs currently on the menu at City Winery.
Sweets served up with the Nutella Pizza at City Winery.
While better known as a live music venue with shows nightly, Nashville's massive City Winery outpost in SoBro also has a full menu of regionally-influenced lunch and dinner plates available daily, in addition to an enticing weekend brunch. Chef Garrett Pittler aimed to add warmer, heartier plates to his winter roster with additions like duck confit tacos made with a cilantro slaw on homemade tortillas or a Pinot Noir-caramelized pork belly. Larger dishes include a house ratatouille and a pork and porcini meatballs over squid ink tagliatelle. Don't overlook dessert either, as the new sweet options include a Nutella pizza, bacon bourbon cashew Cracker Jacks and daily selection of Nitro ice cream.

The heat is up at new restaurant Nicky's Coal Fired.
With more than 50 new restaurants having opened in town within the last year alone, it's hard to be a standout, to be the cream that rises to the top, and yet just a month after officially opening, Nicky's has managed to do just that. This popular dinner spot out in the up-and-coming Nations features such small bites as duck sausage with chicory or baby octopus with tomato, hot chiles and agrumato alongside house-made pastas like pumpkin cappelletti with duck demi, sage and parmigiana or red wine campanelle with pork sugo, rosemary and pecorino. Many of the pizzas, as well, feature seasonal ingredients like the apple, walnut, vin cotto and Gorgonzola pie or the winter square, Taleggio and pine nuts specialty.
