Our History
The Tennessee Valley Theatre came about when two members of the Spring City Women’s Club sent word for anyone interested in starting a community theatre in Rhea County. That was April, and by June of 1989, the old charter of TVT that began in the 1970’s, was reinstated and “Harvey” was our first play! An old barn was our first stage, but thankfully in 1996, our building was donated by Bill Hilleary. It was completely renovated by volunteers and became home to our beloved theatre!
Productions have played in Spring City, Watts Bar, Grandview, Dayton, and Harriman. Several plays were performed in conjunction with the annual Strawberry Festival. We have helped with The Scopes Trial, partnered with the Alzheimer’s Association, and have held a workshop for our local kids every summer for several years!
The long-range goal of TVT was to acquire a permanent “home” in Rhea County. We have always been and are still to this day an all-volunteer organization, and we are always seeking more volunteers on and off the stage!
