Isaac Hayes was born in Covington, about an hour north of Memphis. Isaac Hayes' soul records and dramatic stage presence had a resonating influence on soul, funk, disco and rap music. Hayes explored African-American cultural issues in the late 1960s, paving the way for Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye and others to redefine the soul album. Isaac Hayes was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2005.

Covington is known for its adorable downtown area. Antique shops, boutiques and restaurants line the streets and six city parks make for great photo-ops and family get-togethers. Nature lovers will want to flock to the Chickasaw National Wildlife Refuge and the Hatchie National Wildlife Refuge where you’ll find lots of wildlife, hiking trails and fishing spots.
