Koko Taylor was the female blues artist of her generation and known as "The Queen of the Blues." Growing up in Bartlett, Tennessee, she would listen to artists like Bessie Smith, Bib Mama Thornton and Big Maybelle, Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters. During her career, she won an unprecedented 29 Blues Music Awards, was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame, received 11 Grammy Award nominations and won a Grammy in 1984. Taylor also won the National Endowment for the Arts' National Heritage Fellowship.
