25th Anniversary Celebration!
Join us on Saturday, May 24, 2025, as we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Museum of Butler, TN! For a quarter of a century, we have honored the resilient people who called Old Butler and Watauga Valley home for generations and told the incredible story of the "town that wouldn't drown!"
Our 25th Anniversary Celebration has been specially curated to showcase the rich culture and heritage of our beautiful valley! The day will be brimming with live music and entertainment, a vendor fair featuring regional artists, craftsmen, nonprofit organizations, historical groups, and regional authors. Enjoy delectable concessions provided by the Butler Ruritan Club.
Live entertainment will feature performances by the Roan Street Ramblers, Young at Heart Square Dancing Club, Magician Dillon Williams, Pythagoras Bluegrass with headliner Tim White and Troublesome Hollow! The opening ceremonies, led by the American Legion Honor Guard, will commence at noon, followed by a celebration cake.
A fundraising event offering over $2,000 in door prizes will be held to support the museum's sustainability initiatives. Tickets are $1 each, 6 for $5, 12 for $10, or receive 20 tickets with an annual museum membership for a $25 donation. Annual memberships are valid throughout the season. Proceeds will fund the museum's operating costs and improvement projects.
Visit the Stout Store for a free RC Cola, Moon Pie, and a friendly game of checkers! Doris Stam will be our featured guest at the store, signing copies of her new book, D.D. Dougherty, Lillie Dougherty, and the Early Years of Appalachian State. Ralph E. Lentz, II, author of W.R. Trivett, Appalachian Pictureman: Photographs of a Bygone Time, will also be featured at the event.
Our Vendor Fair includes regional historical societies, artists, craftsmen, churches, and nonprofit organizations. A complete list of vendors can be found on the museum website.
Guests can have their photo taken by Dan Cullinane at the horse carriage.
Admission to the event and the museum is free. Parking at the museum is reserved for guests with mobility issues. Free parking is available within a short walk to the museum.
The event is sponsored by the Tennessee Arts Commission, Skyline Bank, Miss Bab’s Hand-dyed Yarns, and Visit Mountain City TN – Johnson County Tourism Office.
